The path in the woods behind my house is not terribly efficient in terms of mileage from point A to B, winding around trees, hugging a creek, branches to overlooks. My fifth solo release at best shares some of these characteristics. While still focused on solo acoustic improvisation (sax and flute), other sounds have found their way into to some of these tracks. These include ambient nature, distant mike placement, a percussionist (Will Bryce), multi-tracking and manipulation via Audacity.... Solo improvisations on tenor sax, alto sax, and wooden flutes by Jimmy Ghaphery. Recorded somewhere in the Fall 2007 to Spring 2008 neighborhood across several different sittings in my living room direct to minidisc. Some intention was given to sustaining specific moods and/or soundscapes. On reflection use of silence must have been somewhere in my ears as well. This is my 4th solo recording, and the first net only release. favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite ( 1 reviews ) Topics: solo, improv, sax, extended techniques, Jimmy Ghaphery

The title track was recorded during Hurricane Isabel in my living room in Richmond, Virginia, as the winds blew and we began our 10 day retreat without electricity. Soggy Carpet and Hex on soap are also indebted to Isabel; recorded after flooded carpet had been dragged out of my basement. Soggy Carpet finds me playing flute and Sam Byrd's Drum set. Hex on soap is alto. The remainder of the tunes were recorded in the basement after some new carpet remnants were tossed down. Up and out #1 and #2...
